"Once I had a simple friend,
who lived a simple life.
I'd ask him, "Mate, how do you do it,
put up with all this strife?"
"You smile bright throughout the day,
but don't you ever dream
of tricky choices long since past
and future 'might-have-beens'?"
"Do you not look out into the stars
and sense it's all amiss,
of all the worlds that could have been
we ended living this?
I'd ask him this,
he'd turn his eyes,
and look at me agog -
"Why would I dream of other worlds
when I know this one has dogs?"
